Integrated Justice Information (IJI) had its origins in the response to a series of unfortunate and distressing cases in the 1990's, with the Bernardo case at the top of the list. Criminals benefitted from the fact that law enforcement agencies faced obstacles in sharing information quickly and effectively in the course of their day-to-day operations. Integrated Justice in British Columbia:The Justin System

British Columbia is one of the first jurisdictions on the continent to realize the benefits of technology in coordinating the elements of the justice system. In 1995, the Ministry of Attorney General launched the JUSTIN Project, with the aim of developing an integrated justice system. Late in that year, pilot testing of the Crown Counsel component commenced in Kelowna and continued until the system encompassed data and operational functionality to serve Police, Provincial and Federal Crown, Judiciary, Courts, and Corrections.
